According to the numbers on the Julien’s Live website, the total for their December 17th auction entitled, 100 North Carolwood Drive realized $760,630.70 including varying buyers premiums or BP of 25%-28%. Most media outlets have reported that the auction realized “close to one million“or “one million” dollars, though the total from Julien’s Live shows otherwise.
Since December 18th, Movie Prop Collectors has waited for Julien’s Auctions to post the hammer results for the auction which was held December 17th. As of December 28th, only the prices with buyers premium or BP have been posted on Julien’s Live, and not Julien’s regular web site. The BP varies depending on method of purchase, with 25% BP added for items priced $0-$49,999, items selling for $50,000 and higher (not relevant in this auction as no lots went over $50,000) add a 20% BP. Those who bid online are charged an additional 3% BP, with the total being a high of 28% BP added to the sold price of an item.
Previous Julien’s auction totals are published on Julien’s website which include only the auction prices with BP added. The actual hammer prices do not appear. Being that the BP varies between 20% and 28% one cannot accurately determine the hammer prices of lots sold. Therefore, I emailed Hillary Ripps of Julien’s, to see if she could provide the actual hammer prices before the BP was added for the auction.
The auction was dubbed, “The Michael Jackson Auction” in many media outlets in that the items included in the auction were the contents of the home Mr. Jackson rented, not owned, before his untimely passing.
After Darren Julien announced Julien’s Auctions would be auctioning off the headboard of the bed Mr. Jackson passed away in, media and fans reacted. Mr. Jackson’s family stepped in and requested the item be removed and according to a Spin.com article entitled, “Awful Auction Pulls Micheal Jackson’s Deathbed From the Block“, the item was indeed removed.
The website Hollyscoop, reported that the rug, Lot #534, that paramedics placed Mr. Jackson’s body on to try to resuscitate him, was still auctioned for the price of $15,360 including BP.
A chalkboard, Lot #434, reportedly inscribed by Michael Jackson’s children with “love Daddy/ I [heart] Daddy/ SMILE it’s for free” sold for $5,000 with BP.
If MoviePropCollectors receives the actual hammer total from Julien’s it will be posted here.
